The REACH Centre Grey Bruce has partnered with Non-Profit Housing in a pilot project that has three REACH Centre program participants living together in a recently built three bedroom townhouse as roommates with a subsidized Good Neighbour living next door for support and assistance.
The undertaking was as a result of no other local option for these three friends to live together due to their various intellectual or developmental disabilities. REACH Centre recognized that they grew up together, went to school together and hung out together just like another other group of friends. The three families secured their own Good Neighbour based on their individual needs and for oversight and support, the three roommates subsidize the Good Neighbour’s rent. It has been a great success and we will be scaling this project up!
